Kohler Kitchen Remodeling: The Long Beach Owner’s Guide

A full Kohler kitchen remodel in Long Beach runs $14,000 – $45,000 installed, depending on cabinet count, countertop material, and whether we’re moving plumbing or gas lines. Most owners call us after a specific Kohler part fails, a faucet cartridge that won’t stop dripping, a sink flange that’s corroded through, or cabinet hinges that sag after a decade of salt air, and they want to know if the fix is worth doing or if it’s time to gut the whole thing. The answer usually depends on what’s actually failed and how old the rest of the kitchen is. Luca Romano has walked into Long Beach kitchens where a $60 Kohler cartridge was the only real problem, and kitchens where the faucet was the least of it.

One thing to know up front: Sawyer Remodel Long Beach is an independent contractor. We’re not affiliated with Kohler, but we install and service their fixtures every week because Long Beach homeowners keep choosing them, and because we can get genuine Kohler parts same-week from our local supply houses, not mystery knockoffs from a drop-shipper.

Which Kohler Models This Applies To

Kohler’s kitchen lineup splits into a few families, and each has different parts. The Simplice, Bellera, Crue, and Purist pull-down and pull-out faucets share a common ceramic cartridge design, but the cartridge size differs between the older Gen 1 valves and the current Gen 2 valves. The Kohler Stages sink series, a 45-inch and 33-inch workstation sink, uses a specific drain flange with a larger diameter than the standard Kohler kitchen sink drains. If you buy a generic flange, it won’t seal, and you’ll find out the hard way under the sink at 10 p.m. The Prolific and Riverside sink lines take standard drop-in or undermount clips, but the undermount clip spacing varies by model year, so we always pull the model number off the underside before ordering.

How to identify what you have: look under the sink bowl for a stamped K- number (like K-596, K-72218, K-22973). For faucets, the model number is on the spray head or on a tag attached to the supply lines. Take a photo before you scrub it off. For OEM versus aftermarket on Kohler parts, we recommend genuine Kohler for anything that touches water or moves under pressure: cartridges, spray heads, valves, and drain assemblies. Aftermarket equivalents from brands like Danco or Plumb Works can work on older faucets, but Kohler’s newer ceramic discs are machined to tighter tolerances, and a slightly-off aftermarket cartridge will either drip immediately or seize within a year. For non-water parts like cabinet hinges or drawer slides, quality aftermarket is usually fine and sometimes better, Blum and Salice make the slides Kohler rebrands anyway.

Signs Your Kohler Kitchen Remodeling Is Failing

  • Faucet drips after you shut it off. The ceramic cartridge has worn or cracked. On Long Beach’s harder water, mineral buildup scores the discs over time, so eventually they can’t seal. A new Kohler cartridge fixes it in about 20 minutes.
  • Handle gets stiff or sticks. Calcium has worked its way past the O-rings and into the cartridge body. You can sometimes free it by soaking the cartridge in vinegar, but if the discs are scored, it’s done.
  • Water pools under the sink only when the faucet runs. It’s usually the pull-down hose connection at the spray head, the O-ring shrinks from heat cycling and starts leaking under pressure. Tightening the fitting helps temporarily; replacing the O-ring is the real fix.
  • Sink flange or strainer basket is pitted or green. Salt air and bleach-based cleaners eat the finish on cheaper flanges. If the flange is compromised, water seeps between the sink and the counter, and you get that musty smell in the cabinet below.
  • Kitchen cabinets won’t stay closed or drawers grind. The hinges and slides were never adjusted after the original install, or the soft-close dampers have blown. On coastal Long Beach homes, humidity swells MDF cabinet boxes slightly, which throws off door alignment by a few millimeters, enough to make a door pop back open.

Replacement Cost & What’s Included

A walk-in pantry with wood shelving

A full Kohler kitchen remodel in Long Beach runs $14,000 – $45,000 installed. Here’s the line-item breakdown we give homeowners before any work starts:

Scope Installed Price Range
Small kitchen remodel (galley or condo layout) $9,000 – $20,000
Cabinet installation (stock to semi-custom) $4,000 – $13,000
Countertop installation (quartz, stone, or solid surface) $2,000 – $6,500
Backsplash installation $800 – $2,500
Kitchen island installation $3,000 – $10,000

The price moves based on three things: how many linear feet of cabinetry (Long Beach bungalows in Belmont Heights have tighter footprints than the 80s builds over in Los Altos), whether we’re keeping the sink and faucet in the same spot or moving water and gas lines, and the countertop material. Kohler fixtures from the Crue, Purist, or Simplice lines run $250 – $800 for the faucet itself, plus $150 – $300 in labor for a straightforward swap. Every quote from us is a written, line-item price before work starts. If the scope doesn’t change, the invoice doesn’t change. The labor carries a 365-Day Done Right Promise: if something we installed fails within a year, we come back and fix it. No arguments, no re-billing.

DIY or Call Us?

If your Kohler faucet is dripping and you can identify the cartridge, a homeowner with a basin wrench and some patience can swap a cartridge in an afternoon. Kohler’s own cartridge kits come with instructions, and the job doesn’t touch anything dangerous. Same with a corroded sink flange, it’s a matter of removing the old one, cleaning the seat, and sealing the new one with plumber’s putty. Where it goes wrong is when the faucet won’t separate from the sink because Long Beach’s hard water has essentially glued the retaining nut on, or when the cartridge is seized and someone strips the splines trying to force it. That’s the point where a $60 part becomes a $400 faucet replacement because the body is now destroyed. If you feel the wrench start to slip, stop and call (562) 512-6480. We’d rather do a clean 20-minute cartridge swap than replace a faucet you stripped, and the estimate is free.
