Schluter Fence Installation: The Long Beach Owner’s Guide
Schluter fence installation in Long Beach typically runs $3,500 to $9,000 for a complete project, including materials, labor, and the Schluter trim and edge profiles that tie the system together. We stock the common Schluter profiles on our trucks and can usually match your existing system the same day we look at it. Most owners discover they need us when a fence post starts leaning after a rainstorm, or the Schluter edge trim pulls away from a gate frame and the gate won’t latch right.
Here’s the straight version: Schluter doesn’t actually manufacture fence panels or posts. Schluter makes edge trim, waterproofing profiles, and transition strips. In Long Beach, a lot of fences get built with Schluter profiles at the base of the fence line where it meets concrete or stucco, and that’s where the failure shows up first. Moisture from the marine layer gets behind the profile, the fastener corrodes, and the trim starts to separate. That’s what we fix, in addition to the fence structure itself.
Which Schluter Models This Applies To

If your fence has Schluter components, you’re almost certainly working with one of three profile lines: Schluter-DILEX (movement and edge profiles), Schluter-JOLLY (edge protection for tiled or stucco transitions), or Schluter-RONDEC (rounded external corners). On fences, DILEX is the one we see most often along horizontal runs where a stucco wall meets a gate column. JOLLY shows up on the top edge of a tiled knee wall that supports a fence panel. RONDEC is the corner piece on a post wrap.
Here’s the gotcha, and it saves you a call: Schluter profiles come in specific millimeter profiles matched to tile or stucco thickness. A JOLLY that’s sized for a 3/8-inch tile won’t sit right on a half-inch stucco edge, no matter how much caulk you use. We measure the exact profile width on the existing piece before we quote, because guessing gets you a trim that looks right in the online photo and wrong on the wall.
For OEM Schluter versus aftermarket: Schluter’s profile geometry is precise and the aluminum doesn’t pit the way the cheap imports do within two years near the coast. For most Long Beach fences, we recommend OEM Schluter profiles. The cost difference is maybe $30 to $60 per piece, and the OEM piece won’t leave a coffee-colored stain running down your stucco after one winter.
We’re an independent Long Beach contractor, not a Schluter dealer or affiliate. We buy from the same distributors anyone else does. The difference is we know which profile sizes to use before we cut anything.

Signs Your Schluter Fence Installation Is Failing
- Trim pulling away at the base. This is the number-one symptom, and the cause is usually a mix of corroded fasteners and water wicking behind the profile. The fix is removing the piece, treating the underlying surface, and reinstalling with the correct profile for the material thickness.
- White oxidation or pitting on the profile face. Aluminum and salt air don’t get along in Long Beach near the water. If you see white, chalky pitting, the anodized finish is failing and the piece needs replacement before it stains the surrounding surface.
- Gate won’t latch or drags on the ground. This usually means the post has shifted or the hinge side of the frame is out of square. The Schluter trim typically isn’t the cause here, but it’s often the first visible casualty when a post starts to lean.
- Cracks at the profile-to-stucco joint. If you see a hairline crack running along the profile edge, water is getting behind the trim and the thermal movement is working the fasteners loose. Re-caulking alone won’t fix it long-term.
- Rusting or staining running down from the profile. That’s a fastener problem. If the installer used steel screws instead of stainless or coated fasteners, the screw heads rust and bleed down your wall or post.

AfterReplacement Cost & What’s Included

For a typical Long Beach residential fence with Schluter edge profiles, budget $3,500 to $9,000 installed. The lower end covers a straight run with standard galvanized posts and new Schluter base trim along an existing concrete footer. The high end gets you a taller fence, a gate that’s been re-framed and re-hung, rotted post replacement, and custom-cut Schluter profiles on a stucco knee wall.
What moves the number: total linear feet, whether posts need concrete work, how much Schluter trim is involved, and whether we’re matching an existing finish like stucco or a specialty coating. A simple post-and-panel run with 20 linear feet of Schluter base trim is going to sit near $4,000. A 60-foot run with two gates, a stucco knee wall, and full DILEX profiling along every transition is going to hit the $8,000+ side.
Every quote is written and in your hands before any work starts. The price on that sheet is the price on the invoice. If we find hidden rot when we open up a post base, you’ll get a photo of it and a number to approve before we touch anything else.
DIY or Call Us?
You can safely check a few things yourself. Run your hand along the Schluter trim and look for loose sections. Check the gate latch alignment. Look for pitting or staining. That’s a five-minute inspection and it tells you what you’re dealing with.
What you shouldn’t do is pull the trim and try to re-bed it without knowing what’s behind it. If the fasteners are rotten into the stucco or concrete, you’ll make a bigger hole and create a water channel that wasn’t there before. If a post is the problem, setting a plumb post in wet concrete and keeping it level while it cures is not a weekend-and-a-six-pack job. Get it wrong and the gate will sag in four months.
If you find loose trim or a gate that’s started to drag, call us at (562) 512-6480. We’ll come look, tell you what’s actually failing, and put a number in front of you. No obligation.
FAQs

A properly installed fence with Schluter profiles near the coast should last 15 to 20 years before the structural components need major work, though aluminum trim faces may show cosmetic wear from salt air within 8 to 10 years. The trim can be replaced independently of the fence structure. Call (562) 512-6480 and we’ll tell you what’s worth replacing and what’s still solid.
Yes, in most cases we can repair the failing section rather than replace the whole fence, especially when the posts are still sound and only the trim or fasteners have failed. The honest caveat is that patching aluminum trim is rarely worthwhile; replacement trim is the right fix. We’ll give you the repair number and the replace number side by side and you decide.
Most Schluter trim replacement and post fixes are finished in one day, with the exception of concrete work, which needs 24 to 48 hours to cure before the gate goes back on. A full fence replacement with Schluter profiling is typically a two-to-three-day job in Long Beach. We track our arrival time live and send photo updates as the work progresses, so you’re never guessing when we’ll show up or when we finished.
We stock the common Schluter DILEX, JOLLY, and RONDEC profile sizes on our trucks, and we can order less common configurations from our Long Beach suppliers within a couple of business days. We also carry compatible parts for KraftMaid cabinetry, Cambria and Silestone surfaces, and other brands we install regularly. If we don’t have your exact profile on hand, we’ll measure and order it before we open up the wall.
No, the written price you approve is the price you pay. If we find something genuinely unexpected, like hidden termite damage behind a post, we stop, show you photos, and get your approval on a change before we proceed. You’re never surprised at the end with a bigger invoice. That’s the Relay Standard, and it’s how we’ve run jobs in Long Beach since 2005.
If your Schluter fence trim is pulling away, a post is leaning, or the gate won’t close right anymore, call (562) 512-6480. We’ll take a look, give you a written number, and get it fixed. The work tells you everything. The rest is just talking.
