Boral Fence Installation: The Long Beach Owner’s Guide

Boral fence installation in Long Beach typically runs $3,500 to $9,000 for a full perimeter job, depending on linear footage, post condition, and whether we’re repairing an existing run or setting new posts from scratch. Most Boral fence failures we see come down to two things: posts that were never set deep enough for Long Beach’s shifting clay soil, or panels that got brittle after a decade of direct sun and salt air off the harbor. If your Boral fence is leaning, cracking at the rail joints, or the panel tongue-and-groove boards are starting to separate, you’re in the right place. We stock Boral-compatible post mounts, trim boards, and fastening hardware on the truck, so the first visit usually ends with a written price, not a “we’ll get back to you.”

For the record: Sawyer Remodel Long Beach is an independent contractor. We’re not affiliated with Boral. But we’ve installed and repaired enough of their urethane and proprietary composite fence boards across Long Beach to know exactly what holds up and what doesn’t.

Which Boral Models This Applies To

Boral fence systems generally fall into two product lines: their solid urethane fence boards (dense, closed-cell polyurethane that mimics painted wood) and the Boral TruExterior trim used for post wraps and top caps. The urethane boards come in 6-foot and 8-foot lengths, typically 6 to 8 inches wide, with a shiplap or tongue-and-groove edge profile depending on the fence style. TruExterior trim boards run 1×4, 1×6, and 1×8 nominal dimensions, and they cut and fasten differently than the solid fence boards.

Here’s the compatibility gotcha most homeowners hit: Boral fence boards are not interchangeable with vinyl fence panels from Home Depot or Lowe’s. The locking profile is different, and the post sleeve dimensions don’t match standard vinyl post kits. If you try to splice a generic vinyl rail into a Boral run, the joint fails within a season because the expansion rates are mismatched. For aftermarket options, quality polyurethane equivalents exist and can work, but we only recommend that route when Boral’s exact board is discontinued. If the fence is less than 5 years old, stick with Boral. The color match alone is worth it, even before you think about material consistency in Long Beach’s salt-and-sun exposure.

Signs Your Boral Fence Installation Is Failing

  • Posts leaning or pulling out of plum. In Long Beach’s clay-heavy soil, posts set less than 24 inches deep will heave with winter rains and settle unevenly in summer. A leaning post means the footing was undersized from the start.
  • Panels sagging between posts. Boral urethane boards are heavier than wood when installed, and if the bottom rail isn’t supported at mid-span on a long run, the panel will sag after a few years. This is a fastening and rail-interval issue, not a material defect.
  • Tongue-and-groove joints separating. Constant sun exposure on one side of the fence causes thermal expansion, and over time the lock edges will pull apart. You’ll see daylight through the fence where there used to be a solid face.
  • White chalky residue on the board faces. That’s oxidation from UV exposure, common on older Boral boards within a few blocks of the Alamitos Bay or the Port of Long Beach. It’s usually cosmetic until the surface starts flaking, but it signals the protective outer layer is spent.
  • Post caps cracked or missing. The cap is the first part to fail because it takes direct sun and every drop of rain. Most caps crack at the screw holes, and once that happens, water sits inside the post sleeve and works on the post below.

Replacement Cost & What’s Included

A home office with a built-in desk and shelves

For a full Boral fence installation in Long Beach, you’re looking at $3,500 to $9,000 installed, with most residential jobs landing between $4,200 and $6,800 for a 60 to 80 linear foot perimeter. Short runs or spot repairs run lower, and properties with access issues, old post foundations to demo, or slope work push toward the higher end.

Here’s where the money goes:

  • Materials: Boral urethane boards, TruExterior trim, post sleeves, rail hardware, and fasteners. Material runs $22 to $38 per linear foot depending on board width and trim profile.
  • Labor and post setting: excavating old footing, setting new posts in concrete, and assembling panels typically runs $40 to $60 per linear foot.
  • Disposal: hauling old fence boards and footing debris from your Long Beach property.
  • Warranty: our 365-Day Done Right Promise covers the workmanship on every Boral fence installation, in writing, for a full year after the job closes. If something isn’t done right, we make it right.

You get a written price before a single tool is picked up. The number on the invoice is the number you approved. No change orders sprung on you at the end of the job.

DIY or Call Us?

A Boral fence is not a high-tension garage door spring or an electrical panel, so a careful homeowner can usually handle small cosmetic fixes safely: replacing a cracked post cap, touching up chalked boards, or tightening a loose rail screw. Go ahead and try those. But full panel replacement and post work is a different animal. Post setting means digging through Long Beach clay, which swings between concrete-hard in summer and soup after a winter storm. Get the depth wrong or the concrete mix too wet, and your new fence leans within eighteen months.

We’ve also fixed more than a few DIY Boral installs where the boards were fastened with drywall screws because they were on hand. Those rust out and snap in salt air within a year. If you’re replacing a full run or resetting posts, call (562) 512-6480 and we’ll give you a written estimate. You don’t have to buy anything to know what it costs.
