Mighty Buildings Driveway & Pavers: The Long Beach Owner’s Guide

We stock and install Mighty Buildings-compatible driveway and paver components across Long Beach, with typical installed costs running $7000 to $18000 for a full paver driveway and $3500 to $11000 for a paver patio. Most owners call us the same week they notice a sinking paver, a widening gap, or pooling water that won’t drain. Here’s the thing: Mighty Buildings prefabricated panels and modular paving systems sit on Long Beach’s expansive clay soil, and that combination creates failure patterns we see regularly from Naples to Bixby Knolls.

Sawyer Remodel Long Beach is an independent service provider, not affiliated with Mighty Buildings. We work on their products because they’re built well, and when a part fails, it’s usually the substrate or the edge restraints, not the pavers themselves.

Which Mighty Buildings Models This Applies To

Mighty Buildings driveway and paver components fall into two compatibility groups. The first is their modular concrete paver line, which uses a 16″ x 16″ interlocking format with a 2-3/8″ thickness. The second is their permeable paver system, designed at 12″ x 12″ with wider joint gaps to handle stormwater infiltration. If you’re not sure which one you have, flip over a loose paver and look for the mold stamp. The modular line carries an “MB-P” prefix; the permeable line carries “MB-PP.”

The gotcha we run into constantly: Mighty Buildings edge restraints are not interchangeable between the two systems. The modular line uses a polymer edging with 10″ spikes, while the permeable system requires a concrete haunch or aluminum edging rated for the larger joint movement. We’ve seen handy homeowners try to swap one for the other and end up with shifting edges within six months. For OEM replacement parts, sizes are exact, but quality aftermarket pavers from Belgard or Calstone in the same dimensions perform just as well and often cost 15-20% less. We’ll tell you straight which route makes sense for your situation and your budget.

Signs Your Mighty Buildings Driveway & Pavers Is Failing

  • Settling or sinking pavers in the wheel path. Long Beach’s clay soil expands when wet and shrinks when dry. If your Mighty Buildings base wasn’t compacted with at least 4″ of Class II road base, the pavers will sink where car tires press hardest. This is the number one call we get in areas like Los Altos and El Dorado Park.
  • Gaps opening between pavers near the edges. Edge restraints fail first, usually because the spikes pulled loose from the base or the haunch cracked. Once the edge lets go, the entire field starts drifting outward, and gaps appear faster than you’d expect.
  • Water pooling in the middle of the driveway. That means the base has developed low spots, often from a small base failure under one or two pavers that then spreads. We see this after two or three heavy rain seasons, especially where downspouts discharge near the driveway.
  • Cracked or chipped pavers at the driveway entrance. The transition from street to driveway takes the most impact. If the city street was recently repaved, the new asphalt height can create a lip that cracks the first row of pavers under turning load.
  • Weeds or soil pushing up through the joints. Polymeric sand breaks down over time. Once it washes out or cracks, weed seeds find a home, roots expand, and the pavers get pushed around from underneath. Sealcoating won’t fix this. The joint material has to be replaced.

Replacement Cost & What’s Included

Here are the real numbers for Long Beach, so you don’t have to call just to find out if this is even in your ballpark:

  • Full paver driveway replacement (Mighty Buildings compatible): $7000 – $18000 installed
  • Partial repair (under 200 sq ft of pavers): $1500 – $4000
  • Edge restraint replacement: $500 – $1500
  • Joint sand reapplication and compaction: $300 – $900
  • Paver patio installation: $3500 – $11000 installed

What drives the range? Square footage is the big one. Beyond that, the base condition matters most. If the existing base is still sound, we can pull pavers, re-level, and reset them. If the base has failed, we’re hauling out material and rebuilding from the subgrade up, which adds meaningful cost. Every quote we give in Long Beach includes the written price before work starts, the parts cost broken out from labor, and our 365-Day Done Right Promise on the work. If a paver sinks again within a year, we fix it. That’s in writing.

DIY or Call Us?

You can safely do two things yourself. First, check whether any edge restraints are visibly pulled away from the pavers. Second, look at whether water is draining toward the driveway from a downspout or planter area. That’s useful diagnostic work and it costs you nothing.

What we don’t recommend is pulling pavers and trying to re-level them without a plate compactor and a proper base repair. The most common DIY result we see in Long Beach is a field of pavers that looked fine for three weeks, then settled again because the base was never addressed. And if your driveway has any slope, resetting pavers without proper edge restraints creates a real trip hazard. The work tells you everything. The rest is just talking. If you’d rather have it done once and done right, call (562) 512-6480 for a free estimate.
