American Standard Bathroom Remodeling: The Long Beach Owner’s Guide
A full American Standard bathroom remodel in Long Beach typically runs between $9,000 and $28,000 installed, depending on whether you’re refreshing a small guest bath or gutting a primary suite down to the studs. We stock and install American Standard-compatible fixtures, valves, and trim kits across most current and recent series, and we can usually have a remodeler at your door within days, not weeks. Most often, owners realize they need us when a valve starts dripping behind the wall, a cartridge seizes up, or the finish on a faucet or showerhead has corroded to the point where cleaning it isn’t the answer anymore. Sometimes it’s simpler than that: the tile around the tub has failed, water got in, and now the whole alcove needs to be torn out and rebuilt around new American Standard fixtures.
Which American Standard Models This Applies To

American Standard has built bathroom fixtures under a long list of series names over the years, and compatibility is rarely as simple as matching a brand to a brand. The current production lines we work with most in Long Beach include the Studio, Colony, Portsmouth, Cadet, and Reliant series, along with the Champion and Vormax toilet lines when a remodel includes swapping the commode. The older Heritage and Ceramix lines still turn up in Long Beach homes built in the 80s and 90s, and parts for those are getting harder to source every year.
Here’s the gotcha most people hit: American Standard uses several different valve body configurations across series, and a Studio trim kit will not fit a Portsmouth rough-in valve. The rough-in is the brass or polymer body buried in the wall. If the original valve body is still sound, we can swap the cartridge and trim to a newer finish. If the body itself has failed, the wall has to be opened to replace it, which is where a “simple trim update” becomes a real remodel. We always verify the series and rough-in model before ordering anything. We’re an independent contractor and not affiliated with American Standard, so our recommendation on OEM versus aftermarket is based on what actually lasts in Long Beach water, not what the brand wants us to push.

Signs Your American Standard Bathroom Remodeling Is Failing
- Persistent drip from the tub spout or showerhead. This is almost always a worn cartridge or a failed seat inside the valve body. If you’ve replaced the cartridge once and it’s dripping again a year later, the valve body itself is likely scored and needs replacement, not another cartridge swap.
- Water stains or soft drywall on the wall behind the shower valve. That stain means a slow leak inside the wall cavity, usually at a threaded connection or a pinhole in the valve body. By the time you see the stain on the outside, the framing behind it has been wet for months.
- Handle that won’t stop turning or has gone stiff. A handle that spins past its normal stop point means the stem or limiter has broken inside the valve. A handle that’s stiff usually means mineral buildup from Long Beach’s hard water has crusted the cartridge in place.
- Finish flaking or pitting on faucets, shower trim, or drain covers. Once the PVD finish on American Standard trim starts peeling, there’s no restoration. That’s the moment a fixture-only swap makes sense, and it’s a fraction of a full remodel cost if the rough-in is still good.
- Grout cracking or caulk pulling away around the tub, shower pan, or vanity backsplash. This isn’t a fixture problem, but it’s how small water issues become full bathroom remodels. Once water migrates behind the tile, you’re down to the studs in that section, and that’s when we’re rebuilding the alcove and setting new American Standard fixtures at the same time.

AfterReplacement Cost & What’s Included

A complete American Standard bathroom remodel in Long Beach runs $9,000 to $28,000 depending on the size of the room, the condition of the plumbing, and the materials you choose. A small guest bath with a standard tub alcove and a single vanity can land near the bottom of that range. A primary bathroom with a walk-in shower, dual vanities, and relocated plumbing can push toward the top.
Here’s what that range covers in our world:
- Small bathroom remodel (5×7, standard tub or shower): $9,000 to $14,000
- Mid-size bathroom with new tub or walk-in shower, new vanity, and tile work: $14,000 to $20,000
- Primary bathroom gut remodel with custom tile, new fixtures, and plumbing changes: $20,000 to $28,000
Every one of those numbers includes the same thing: a written price before any work starts, plumbing and fixture installation, tile and waterproofing work, and a 365-Day Done Right Promise. If something’s not right inside that year, we come back and make it right. You get the number on paper before a single tool comes off the truck.
DIY or Call Us?
A failed trim kit or showerhead is something a careful homeowner can often swap without pulling permits, and American Standard makes that reasonably straightforward on their newer valve platforms. If the issue is a showerhead, a tub spout, or a cosmetic trim plate, and the wall behind it is dry, you might be fine watching a few videos and going slowly.
What you should not do is open a wall that holds a pressurized water line, cut into tile around a valve body, or attempt to sweat copper without repiping experience. We’ve been called to more than a few Long Beach homes where a homeowner “saved” a trim kit and paid triple after the water hit the wiring. If you’re not certain where your shutoff is, whether the rough-in is salvageable, or what’s behind the tile, call us at (562) 512-6480. The work tells you everything. The rest is just talking.
FAQs

A fixture-only swap (valve trim, tub spout, showerhead, faucet) typically takes one day. A full bathroom remodel with tile, waterproofing, and new fixtures runs two to four weeks depending on scope and any inspection windows required by the City of Long Beach. Call (562) 512-6480 and we’ll give you a schedule that’s tied to your specific project.
Yes, cartridges, stems, seats, and O-rings can often be replaced without touching the wall, and we stock common American Standard cartridges on our service trucks. If the valve body itself is scored, cracked, or leaking, repair stops being economical and replacement becomes the honest answer. We’ll show you the failed part before we replace it so you see exactly what went wrong.
We keep the most common American Standard cartridges, trim kits, and rough-in valves on hand for the Studio, Colony, and Cadet lines. Older or less common series parts we order directly and typically have them within a few days to a week. We’ll tell you upfront if your part needs to be ordered before any work is scheduled.
No. You get a written line-item price before any work begins, and that’s the number on the invoice. The only exception is if we open a wall and find damage that no one could have seen from the outside, and in that case we stop, show you photos, and agree on a written change order before we go further. You never pay for a surprise.
