Atlas Kitchen Remodeling: The Long Beach Owner’s Guide
If you have an Atlas kitchen that’s starting to show its age, we can match the original finishes, hardware, and cabinet details in most Long Beach homes. A full Atlas kitchen remodel here typically runs $14,000 – $45,000, depending on cabinet condition, countertop material, and whether you’re changing the layout. Most owners call us when they start noticing delaminating cabinet doors, failing drawer slides, or countertops that have taken one too many hits from a cast iron pan. Atlas cabinets were built to a mid-range production standard, which means the boxes often hold up while the moving parts and surfaces fail first. If that sounds like your kitchen, you’re in the right place.
Which Atlas Models This Applies To

Atlas kitchen cabinetry was sold through builder supply houses and mid-market remodelers across Southern California, so we see it most often in tract homes and condos built between roughly 1995 and 2015 around Long Beach. The two lines we work with most are the Atlas Classic Series (framed, face-mount doors, plywood boxes) and the Atlas Euro Series (frameless, full-overlay, particleboard boxes with laminate or thermofoil fronts).
Here’s the compatibility gotcha that trips people up: Atlas changed their hinge boring pattern in 2008. Pre-2008 cabinets used a 35mm cup bored 3mm from the door edge; later models moved to a 5mm setback. If you grab a replacement door or hinge without measuring the bore, it won’t sit flush no matter how many times you adjust it. The fastest way to identify your exact model is to pull a drawer and look for a stamp or sticker on the drawer box. Atlas usually printed a four-digit date code plus the series initials, like “CL-06/12” for Classic Series, June 2012.
On the OEM versus aftermarket question: Atlas never made their own hinges or slides. They sourced from Blum, Salice, and a few budget Asian suppliers depending on the run year. For drawer slides and hinges, we install Blum or Salice aftermarket hardware without hesitation because they’re the same parts Atlas used, often with a better warranty. For doors and panels, the finish match is the real problem. Thermofoil from 2005 has faded slightly in California sun, and a brand-new OEM door ordered today won’t match the yellows and grays that have shifted over a decade. In those cases, we recommend refacing the whole run or ordering matched doors from a local supplier who can tint to the existing color. We also stock parts for KraftMaid, Cambria, and Silestone kitchens, so if your Atlas project has mixed surfaces, we can handle it without calling three companies.

Signs Your Atlas Kitchen Remodeling Is Failing
- Thermofoil peeling on cabinet doors and drawer fronts. The vinyl layer separates from the MDF core, usually starting at edges or near the dishwasher where heat and steam hit hardest. Once it lifts, you can’t glue it back flat; the core underneath has already absorbed moisture.
- Drawer slides that catch, tilt, or fall out entirely. Atlas’s early Euro Series used side-mount slides rated for 75 pounds, and Long Beach kitchens tend to stuff drawers well past that. The ball bearings wear out, the slide bends, and suddenly you’re holding a drawer full of pans in your lap.
- Soft-close hinges that slam or won’t stay closed. The tiny polymer damper inside the hinge cup cracks after about 8 – 12 years of daily use. You’ll hear the door hit the frame instead of easing shut, or opposite, the door won’t close all the way and stays proud of the box.
- Laminate countertops bubbling or separating at seams. Moisture gets into the particleboard substrate near the sink or dishwasher, swells the edge, and lifts the laminate. In coastal Long Beach air, that process happens faster than it would inland because humidity stays higher year-round.
- Cabinet boxes pulling away from the wall or sagging under weight. The mounting rail loses its screws to vibration and age. If you can press on the upper cabinet and see the gap move at the wall, stop loading that cabinet and call us before it drops.

AfterReplacement Cost & What’s Included

A full Atlas kitchen remodel in Long Beach runs $14,000 – $45,000, and the spread comes down to three things: how much cabinet work the kitchen needs, what countertop surface you choose, and whether the floor plan changes. If your Atlas cabinet boxes are still solid, a reface with new doors, drawer fronts, and hardware usually lands between $9,000 and $20,000. If the boxes are swollen or the layout doesn’t work, you’re into the full replacement range. Here’s how the line items break out:
- Cabinet refacing or replacement: $4,000 – $13,000 depending on door count and material
- Countertop installation: $2,000 – $6,500 (laminate to quartz)
- Backsplash installation: $800 – $2,500
- Kitchen island installation or modification: $3,000 – $10,000
- Small kitchen remodel (galley or compact): $9,000 – $20,000
Every quote is a written line-item price before we pick up a tool. We don’t play the “discovered something behind the drywall” change order game. If demolition reveals a problem, we stop, show you photos, and give you a written number for the fix before we touch it. The work carries our 365-Day Done Right Promise: if it’s not done right within the first year, we make it right.
How We Work in Long Beach
Every project runs under The Relay Visibility Guarantee. That means before we start, you get a confirmed arrival time, a written price, and a photo text when we’re on the way. During the job, you get before-and-after photos at the key milestones, and the final invoice comes as a link you pay from your phone. No surprise line items, no wondering what’s happening, no chasing anyone for updates. That’s the way Luca Romano runs his crew, and it’s been that way since we started.
DIY or Call Us?
Some Atlas kitchen issues are safe to check yourself. Loose cabinet doors? Grab a screwdriver and snug the hinge screws. A drawer that catches? Pull it out and see if something’s jammed in the slide channel. That’s fair game.
Where homeowners get into trouble is peeling thermofoil (you can’t fix it, and scraping makes the MDF core swell worse) and any cabinet that’s pulling from the wall. Upper cabinets that come down send a hundred pounds of dishes and cabinet onto whatever’s below, and that’s a hospital trip waiting to happen. Do not “just add a few longer screws.” If you feel movement at the wall, empty the cabinet and call (562) 512-6480. We’ll tell you over the phone whether it’s a quick refasten or a full remount, and the estimate is free either way.
FAQs

Atlas kitchen cabinets typically last 15 – 25 years in Long Beach, with the box outliving the doors, hinges, and drawer slides. The thermofoil or laminate finish usually fails first, especially near the dishwasher or any window that gets direct California sun. Coastal humidity near Belmont Shore and Naples speeds up edge swelling compared to drier areas farther inland.
We can’t, and neither can anyone else, not in a way that lasts. Once the vinyl lifts from the MDF core, the bond is gone and moisture has already started working on the substrate. The right fix is replacement doors or a full reface. Call (562) 512-6480 and we’ll give you a written price for both options.
Most full Atlas kitchen remodels in Long Beach take 4 – 8 weeks from demo to final walkthrough. A cabinet reface with new counters usually runs 2 – 3 weeks. We schedule permits, inspections, and material lead times before demolition starts so you’re not living without a kitchen for longer than you have to.
We carry Blum and Salice hinges and slides, which cover most Atlas kitchens made after 2000, plus common door bumpers, shelf pins, and mounting hardware. If your Atlas uses an oddball hinge bore or a discontinued slide length, we source it within a few days and confirm the price before ordering. Call (562) 512-6480 with your cabinet date code and we’ll tell you what’s on hand.
