Belgard Fence Installation: The Long Beach Owner’s Guide

Belgard fence installation in Long Beach typically runs $3,500 – $9,000 for a full perimeter project, with most homeowners landing between $5,000 and $7,000 for a standard 150 – 200 linear foot backyard. We stock Belgard wall and fence block on our trucks and install it year-round, because Long Beach’s coastal salt air and hard-packed clay soil create specific challenges that generic fence systems don’t handle well.

Most owners call us when a wooden fence has rotted past repair and they want something that won’t need replacing in eight years. Our answer is usually Belgard’s concrete fence line: a modular block system that goes up faster than poured concrete, handles the marine layer without warping, and actually looks like it belongs in a Naples Island or Bixby Knolls backyard. If you’re standing in front of a leaning, splitting, or termite-eaten fence right now, you’re in the right place.

Which Belgard Models This Applies To

Belgard’s fence installation line breaks into three families we work with regularly: the Bel-Air™ series (their most popular residential block, 6″ tall units with a natural stone face), the Melville Wall™ system (larger format, faster install, more of a modern clean look), and the Diamond Pro Stone Cut™ line (three-color blend, more texture). Each one uses a specific connecting system, and here’s the gotcha most Long Beach homeowners hit: you cannot mix Bel-Air block with Melville Wall block. The internal lip-and-channel geometry is different. If you’re replacing half a fence, you need the exact series match, not just something that looks close from the street.

An OEM Belgard block will carry a molded product code on the underside or inside face. Flip one over and you’ll see a four-to-six character stamp. Aftermarket equivalents exist, but for a fence where color consistency matters across dozens of feet of visible surface, we recommend OEM Belgard for anything you’ll see from the sidewalk or patio. Aftermarket block can shift slightly in tone between manufacturing runs, and Belgard’s color locking – especially in River Red and Chestnut – is more consistent because they control the pigment at the plant.

One more compatibility note: Belgard fence posts come in both a “flat-top” and “corner-cut” cap profile. The caps are not interchangeable between the two. If you’re ordering replacement caps for an existing fence, measure the post width and bring a photo before buying.

Signs Your Belgard Fence Installation Is Failing

  • Base course sinking or tilting. In Long Beach’s clay-heavy soil, the bottom row of block shifts when the ground expands and contracts through wet winters and dry summers. You’ll see a visible lean at the soil line or a gap between the first and second course. This almost always traces back to an inadequate gravel base or missing compaction before the original install.
  • Cap blocks loosening or sliding. The adhesive holding caps to the top course breaks down in direct sun and salt air. Once a cap slides, water gets into the hollow core of the post below it. That water pools, and in a cold snap – rare but not unheard of in Long Beach – you get freeze expansion cracking the block from inside.
  • Hairline cracks running through multiple courses. This isn’t cosmetic. Belgard fence block is reinforced concrete, and a crack that spans two or more courses means lateral pressure from soil movement or an impact from a vehicle. It won’t self-heal, and the sections on either side of the crack are no longer interlocked properly.
  • Discoloration or spalling on the bottom two feet. Sprinkler overspray with Long Beach’s hard water leaves mineral deposits that etch into the surface over time. Combined with the salt content in the coastal air, this breaks down the top layer of the block. It starts as white streaking, moves to gray patches, and eventually the face starts flaking away.
  • Gate posts pulling away from the fence run. The gate is the highest-stress point on any fence system. If the gate post has moved even a quarter inch, the gate will bind, sag, or refuse to latch. On a Belgard fence, this usually means the post core wasn’t filled and reinforced properly at installation, not that the block itself failed.

Replacement Cost & What’s Included

Installed Belgard fence pricing in Long Beach breaks down like this:

  • Full fence replacement (150 – 200 linear feet): $3,500 – $9,000 depending on series, height, and access
  • Section repair (10 – 40 linear feet): $800 – $2,800 including demo, base correction, and new block
  • Gate replacement or rebuild: $500 – $1,800 including hardware, posts, and re-hang
  • Cap and adhesive repair only: $300 – $800

What drives the range across Long Beach: your soil composition (most of the city sits on expansive clay that needs a deeper compacted base – we build for that, and it’s already in our pricing), your access situation (an alley-loaded lot in Belmont Heights takes different equipment than an open backyard in Los Altos), and which Belgard series you’re matching. Every quote we give is a written, line-item price before work starts. The number on the estimate is the number on the invoice. Period. And because Luca Romano stands behind the framing he builds, our 365-Day Done Right Promise covers every fence installation: if something isn’t done right within a year of project close, we make it right. No argument, no chasing.

DIY or Call Us?

You can safely do two things yourself: confirm which Belgard series you have by flipping a block and reading the product code, and check whether your base course has shifted by running a string line along the bottom. That diagnostic information helps us quote you faster. What we don’t recommend is resetting leaning block yourself. A collapsed base course means the load path is already compromised, and pulling courses apart without bracing the adjacent sections can domino into a much bigger repair. Concrete block doesn’t pinch or spring like a garage door cable, but a 40-pound block falling from chest height onto a wedge toe is a real thing we’d rather you not test.

If you want to know whether it’s a five-hour repair or a full rebuild, call us at (562) 512-6480. We’ll talk through what you’re seeing, and if it makes sense, we’ll come out and give you a written price. No charge for the estimate.
