Cambria Driveway & Pavers: The Long Beach Owner’s Guide

We stock and install Cambria-compatible driveway and paver systems throughout Long Beach, with full paver driveway installations running $7,000 – $18,000 depending on square footage, paver grade, and base prep. Most owners discover a problem the hard way: a sunken corner near the gutter, a paver that’s cracked clean through after a heavy rain, or sand washing out between joints faster than it should. You’re not just dealing with a cosmetic issue. When pavers fail, water gets under them, and then the whole base starts moving.

Here’s what you need to know before you spend a dime, including which Cambria profiles we work with, what actually fails first in coastal California conditions, and what an honest installed price looks like in Long Beach.

Which Cambria Models This Applies To

Cambria’s Quarry Collection is the line we see most often on Long Beach driveways, particularly the Bella, Britannica, and Windermere profiles. These are calibrated concrete pavers, typically 60mm and 80mm thickness, with a factory-beveled edge that locks spacing automatically during install. If you’re holding a paver that has chiseled edges and a slightly textured face, you’re likely dealing with a Quarry paver. The 60mm version is rated for pedestrian and light vehicle traffic. The 80mm is what belongs under a driveway where trucks, SUVs, and delivery vans roll daily.

One compatibility gotcha worth knowing: Cambria changed the paver dimensions slightly between production years. Older Bella pavers measure 6″ x 9″ imperial, while newer runs use a metric mold that runs a hair under. If you try to patch an older driveway with a newer paver, the joints won’t line up. We measure the existing paver before ordering anything. On the OEM vs aftermarket question: Cambria’s factory pavers hold color better over time because the pigment runs through the full depth of the paver, not just a surface layer. There are decent aftermarket equivalents, but the color match on a five-year-old driveway is never exact. For a full replacement, aftermarket can save you 15 to 20 percent. For a patch repair, we recommend OEM Cambria so the patch doesn’t look like a patch.

Sawyer Remodel Long Beach is an independent contractor. We’re not affiliated with Cambria, but we install and repair their pavers often enough that we know what matches and what doesn’t.

Signs Your Cambria Driveway & Pavers Is Failing

  • Sand washing out between joints after every rain. This means the polymeric sand has broken down or was never installed properly. Once the sand goes, the pavers start shifting laterally under load, and you’ll see gaps widen within a season. Left alone, the next step is rutting.
  • A low spot that ponds water for more than an hour after rain. In Long Beach, we deal with clay-heavy soil that expands and contracts with moisture. That movement is what causes localized settling. The paver itself didn’t fail; the base beneath it did.
  • Cracked pavers concentrated near the apron or where the driveway meets the street. This is usually a base compaction issue or a heavy-vehicle point load. The apron takes the most abuse from garbage trucks and delivery vehicles, and a cracked paver there is rarely a one-off problem.
  • Shifting or heaving along the edges without a proper edge restraint. If the plastic or concrete edge restraint is missing or cracked, pavers will walk outward over time. You’ll see a widening gap between the paver field and the lawn or planter bed.
  • Faded color that looks patchy in blotches, not evenly. Blotchy fading is often a sign the driveway was patched in sections with different production runs, or a sealer failed in spots. Even color loss across the whole surface is just age. Blotchy means water is penetrating unevenly, and that accelerates spalling in the freeze-thaw cycle that’s milder here but still real near the coast.

Replacement Cost & What’s Included

A remodeled kitchen with painted cabinets and a farmhouse sink

A full Cambria-compatible paver driveway replacement in Long Beach runs $7,000 – $18,000. The spread comes down to three things: square footage, access, and what’s under the old pavers. A 400-square-foot driveway with a clean tear-out and good native soil sits at the low end. A 900-square-foot driveway with poor drainage, old concrete underneath, and tight side-yard access climbs toward the top.

Scope Long Beach Price Range
Full paver driveway replacement (Cambria-compatible) $7,000 – $18,000
Partial repair / section replacement $1,200 – $3,500 (priced per section)
Joint sand replacement & re-compaction $400 – $1,100
Edge restraint repair $250 – $600
Sealing (full driveway) $800 – $2,200

Every quote includes tear-out, base prep, paver material, install labor, joint sand, and cleanup. We write the price before we start, and that’s the number you pay. The work is covered by our 365-Day Done Right Promise: if something’s not right within a year, we come back and make it right. No invoice surprise, no chasing.

DIY or Call Us?

You can replace a single cracked paver if you have a matching spare and patience. Lift it with two flat pry bars, re-level the bedding sand, set the replacement, and sweep joint sand into the seams. That’s a Saturday-morning job for a capable homeowner. What you shouldn’t do is attempt a full driveway build or a large section repair without a plate compactor. Hand-tamping a base on Long Beach clay doesn’t get you the compaction you need, and you’ll be redoing the work within two years when the whole section starts sinking. Also, be honest with yourself about the tear-out. Old pavers, sand, and base material are heavy, and the haul-off alone is more than most people want in their weekend.

If the problem is settling, cracked pavers in a traffic lane, or sand washing out every time it rains, that’s a base failure, not a paver failure. Call us at (562) 512-6480 and we’ll give you a straight answer on what actually needs to be repaired, and what it costs, before any work gets scheduled.
