CWS Fence Installation: The Long Beach Owner’s Guide

If your CWS fence is failing, you’re likely looking at a full or partial installation running $3,500 to $9,000 in Long Beach, depending on linear footage, post condition, and access. We stock CWS-compatible fence hardware and panels on our trucks, and most CWS fence repairs or replacements in Long Beach go from first call to finished job within a few days. You’ll usually notice the problem before you see it: a gate that drags, posts leaning after a hard rain, or pickets that sound hollow when you tap them.

Long Beach’s salt air and marine layer aren’t kind to metal fence components. We see CWS fencing in neighborhoods from Naples to Bixby Knolls that’s structurally sound but failing at the connection points: rusted brackets, pulled fasteners, and posts that have shifted in the sandy soil common near the coast.

Which CWS Models This Applies To

A whole-home remodel with the living, dining and kitchen areas opened up

CWS fence systems come in three primary product lines we work with regularly across Long Beach: their aluminum ornamental series, the vinyl privacy line, and composite deck-and-fence systems. The aluminum ornamental line uses a proprietary post-and-rail bracket system where the rail slides into a pre-routed slot on the post. That bracket is almost always the first point of failure. The vinyl line uses a tongue-and-groove picket design that’s interchangeable with most major vinyl fence manufacturers, but CWS posts have a thicker wall than generic box-store posts. If you’re mixing aftermarket posts with original CWS panels, you’ll get a visible seam and a weaker connection point.

To identify your exact model, check the inside of the gate frame or the back of a post cap. CWS stamps a series code that starts with either “AL” for aluminum, “V” for vinyl, or “C” for composite. Measure the post dimensions too. CWS aluminum posts run 2″ x 2″ and 2.5″ x 2.5″ depending on series. The 2.5″ posts are typically commercial-grade and require a different bracket set. Getting this wrong means your rails won’t seat properly, and you’ll be fighting the gate alignment from day one.

For the CWS fence systems, we use OEM hardware when it’s available and still in production. For discontinued CWS series, quality aftermarket brackets from LMT or Ultra hold up well. The one place we don’t compromise is gate hinges. CWS self-closing hinges have a specific spring tension rating, and knockoff hinges either sag within a year or snap the spring. That’s a $40 difference that saves hundreds in re-hanging.

We’re an independent Long Beach contractor, not affiliated with CWS directly. We work on their fence systems because they’re common in this market and we’ve spent years learning which parts interchange cleanly and which don’t.

Signs Your CWS Fence Installation Is Failing

  • Gate drags on the latch side. This usually means the hinge-side post has shifted out of plumb. In Long Beach’s sandy soil, especially near Alamitos Bay or the Los Cerritos wetlands, posts settle unevenly after heavy winter rains.
  • Rust staining at rail-to-post connections. The marine layer deposits salt on exposed metal, accelerating corrosion at brackets and fasteners. Once you see rust streaks running down from a bracket, the galvanized coating has failed underneath too.
  • Pickets pulling loose at the bottom rail. CWS vinyl pickets slot into a channel. When a post shifts, the rail flexes and pickets pop out, usually at the end of the panel furthest from the gate.
  • Fence line sways when you push on it. A properly installed CWS fence should feel rigid. Movement means the posts are no longer set deep enough or the concrete footings have cracked. Coastal wind off the Pacific tests this on every exposed property line.
  • Post caps cracked or missing. UV exposure breaks down the caps before anything else. Open posts collect water, which pools at the base and rots the post from the inside out over a few seasons.

Replacement Cost & What’s Included

A remodeled family room with new windows and a window seat

CWS fence installation in Long Beach typically runs $3,500 to $9,000. Here’s what drives that range:

Fence Type Typical Installed Price (Long Beach)
Aluminum ornamental (per 50 linear feet) $3,500 – $6,500
Vinyl privacy (per 50 linear feet) $4,000 – $7,000
Composite fence-and-gate system $5,500 – $9,000

The spread comes down to post condition and access. If we can reuse existing posts, you’re at the lower end. If posts need resetting or the old fence was set in concrete that now has to be broken out, labor goes up. Curb cuts, narrow side yards, and backyard access in older Long Beach neighborhoods like Rose Park or Willmore City add time too.

Every quote includes the written price before work starts, removal and haul-off of the old fence, new CWS-compatible components, and a workmanship warranty. We pull permits where Long Beach building code requires them, and we pass inspections before we call the job done. You’ll know exactly what’s being installed and what it costs before we pick up a tool.

DIY or Call Us?

You can check your post plumb with a level and tighten loose brackets without involving anyone. Replacing a picket or two is straightforward if you match the profile. But if posts are leaning, footings are cracked, or the gate won’t close square, that’s a full reset job. Digging out concrete footings in Long Beach hardpan without damaging surrounding fence sections takes equipment and patience, and a post set 6 inches too shallow will lean again within a year.

Fence work isn’t dangerous the way high-tension springs are, but a 60-foot panel of aluminum fence falling because a post let go can knock someone down or damage a car. If your fence has shifted enough that sections are leaning more than a few degrees, don’t stand under it. Call us at (562) 512-6480 and we’ll get eyes on it.
