Dvele Driveway & Pavers: The Long Beach Owner’s Guide
We install and repair Dvele-compatible driveway pavers across Long Beach, and a typical paver driveway installation runs $7,000 to $18,000 depending on square footage, base prep, and the paver style your Dvele home was built with. Most owners notice the problem the same way: a paver that’s sunk an inch below its neighbors, a weed line that won’t quit, or a low spot that holds a puddle for three days after rain. You don’t need a full tear-out every time. Often it’s a base failure in one section, and that’s a repair, not a replacement.
One thing to know before you go further: Sawyer Remodel Long Beach is an independent contractor. We’re not affiliated with Dvele, and we don’t pretend to be. What we are is a crew that’s worked on enough Dvele homes in Long Beach to know how their driveway packages were spec’d, which pavers show up most often, and what actually fails out here in coastal California heat and clay soil.
Which Dvele Models This Applies To

Dvele homes in Southern California were typically built with one of two driveway treatments: a paver system (usually a concrete interlocking paver, often Belgard or Calstone in the 3-1/8″ thickness) or a poured concrete slab with paver accents. The paver driveways show up more on the single-family and larger lot models, while some attached and smaller-lot units used concrete with a paver border.
The compatibility gotcha is thickness. If your Dvele driveway was built with 3-1/8″ pavers, that’s the only thickness we’ll match to. A 2-3/8″ paver from a big-box store looks almost identical on top, but it sits lower and it cracks under vehicle weight within a couple of years. We measure before we order, every time.
To identify your exact paver, look for a manufacturer stamp on the underside of a loose paver, or check the original Dvele finish schedule if you kept it. No stamp, no schedule? Pull one paver and bring it to our shop, or send a photo. We’ll match the color, size, and surface texture. For aftermarket options, we use Belgard and Calstone equivalents that match Dvele’s original specs, not mystery pavers from a pallet yard.

Signs Your Dvele Driveway & Pavers Is Failing
Here’s what we see on Dvele driveways in Long Beach, in the order of how bad it is:
- Sunken pavers near the garage apron or street transition. This is almost always base failure, not a bad paver. Long Beach clay expands and contracts with moisture, and if the original base wasn’t compacted in lifts, the whole section settles. Individual paver replacement won’t fix it; the base has to be re-cut and re-compacted.
- Weeds pushing up between joints. The polymeric sand has broken down or wasn’t installed correctly. Left alone, the weeds widen the joints, the pavers shift, and water gets under the whole system. We cut out the old sand, re-sand, and compact.
- Standing water pooling in the middle of the driveway. Dvele’s original grading was usually solid, but soil movement over time can create low spots. This accelerates base erosion. A local re-slope in that section is the fix.
- Crumbling or cracked edge pavers. The edge restraint (usually a plastic or concrete border) has failed, so the outside pavers are taking tire pressure they were never meant to bear. We replace the restraint and the damaged pavers as one job.
- Color fading and surface pitting across the whole driveway. This is aesthetic, not structural, but it’s the most common Dvele driveway complaint we hear in Long Beach, especially on west-facing exposures. A deep clean and re-seal buys you years; if the pitting is deep, selective replacement is the better call.
Replacement Cost & What’s Included

In Long Beach, here’s what Dvele homeowners should expect to pay when they call us:
- Full paver driveway installation: $7,000 to $18,000
- Concrete driveway installation: $4,500 to $12,000
- Driveway replacement (full tear-out of existing): $5,000 to $14,000
- Driveway sealing (paver or concrete): $250 to $700
- Sectional paver repair (base failure in one area): $800 to $2,500 depending on the size of the failed section
Every quote includes the tear-out of the existing section, base material and compaction, the pavers or concrete, edge restraint where needed, and cleanup. We don’t surprise you with a “base prep fee” at the end. The written price you approve before we start is the price you pay. And if the repair fails within 365 days, the 365-Day Done Right Promise means we come back and make it right at no charge. That’s in writing on every job.

AfterDIY or Call Us?
Replacing one or two pavers in the middle of your Dvele driveway? You can do that with a paver extractor or two flathead screwdrivers and some patience. We’ll even tell you how over the phone. Where DIY goes wrong is anything that involves the base. If your pavers are sinking, if you’ve got a low spot, if the edge is crumbling, or if the driveway has shifted enough that you can see a gap under a paver, the base underneath is the problem. Digging that out without the right compaction equipment means you’ll be doing it again in a year. And worse, a half-fixed base makes the surrounding section fail faster because water now drains toward the weak spot.
This isn’t a spring under tension or a live electrical panel, so nothing about it will hurt you. But it will hurt your wallet if the fix doesn’t hold. If you want to replace a couple of loose pavers yourself, call us and we’ll talk you through what to check. If it’s bigger than that, call (562) 512-6480 and we’ll come look at it. The estimate is free.
FAQs

A properly installed paver driveway on a well-compacted base should last 25 to 30 years in Long Beach before it needs major work, though the surface may need re-sanding and sealing every 3 to 5 years. The base is what fails first, not the pavers. Coastal clay soil and irregular moisture are the biggest enemies. Call (562) 512-6480 and we’ll tell you honestly whether yours is at year 5 or year 25.
Yes, in most cases. If the failure is isolated to one section, a sectional paver repair with new base material is a fraction of the cost of a full replacement. If the whole base was never compacted properly from day one, replacement is the honest answer. We’ll tell you which one you’re looking at before any work starts.
A sectional repair usually takes 1 to 2 days, and a full paver driveway replacement in Long Beach typically runs 3 to 5 days depending on square footage and access. We’ll give you a written timeline with the quote, and you’ll get photo updates before and after, per The Relay Visibility Guarantee.
We keep the most common Dvele-spec pavers on the truck, including the 3-1/8″ Belgard and Calstone lines we see on most Long Beach Dvele driveways. If your exact color or lot is discontinued, we source a match from our supplier within a few days. We’ll confirm availability before you approve anything.
