Schluter Windows & Doors: The Long Beach Owner’s Guide

Schluter-compatible windows and doors in Long Beach run $4,500 to $15,000 installed, depending on size, frame material, and whether we’re replacing one window or a full opening. We stock Schluter edge trim, Schluter door thresholds, and Schluter corner pieces on the truck for weatherproofing repairs, so most trim-and-seal failures are handled same-week, not next month.

The way most Long Beach homeowners find us: water staining at the bottom corner of a sliding door, a window that won’t close square after a few coastal winters, or cracked Schluter trim around an entry door that’s letting air through. It’s rarely the glass. It’s almost always the connection details, the waterproofing layer, the threshold, the trim that Schluter designed to shed water and the salt air finally won.

Which Schluter Models This Applies To

Schluter doesn’t make the window or door itself. They make the waterproofing and transition system around it: SCHLUTER-DILEX profiles, SCHLUTER-DECO edge trim, SCHLUTER-RENO thresholds, and KERDI waterproofing membrane strips that tie the window or door opening into the wall. The compatibility question is always about which profile series you have and what surface it’s bonding to.

Older Long Beach homes, especially the 1950s stucco bungalows in Belmont Heights and the bluff houses in Naples, typically used the DILEX-EKE edge profile or the RENO-U stainless threshold. Newer builds run DILEX-BWA with the splash guard. You can identify yours by looking at the top flange: if it has a visible adhesive grid pattern, it’s a BWA or AKWS series. If it’s smooth with a rounded top lip, you’re looking at EKE or HKS. Getting the series right matters because the mounting leg dimensions differ by 2 to 3 millimeters, and forcing the wrong one into a tile bed cracks the tile line.

For Schluter windows and doors specifically, OEM is the better call in about 70 percent of cases. The profiles are inexpensive relative to the labor, and aftermarket die-formed equivalents don’t match the Schluter corner connectors. We’ll never tell you to pay double for a name unless it actually matters. Here, it usually does.

Signs Your Schluter Windows & Doors Is Failing

  • Water staining at the bottom hinge corner. The Schluter threshold or drip edge has separated from the subfloor, and moisture is wicking under the tile or wood. Coastal fog and winter rain in Long Beach keep that joint wet for weeks at a time.
  • Visible corrosion on the profile face. Schluter’s aluminum profiles are anodized, but salt air from the harbor speeds up pitting along Belmont Shore and the Peninsula. Once the anodizing fails, the metal swells and pops the surrounding grout.
  • Door drags or won’t clear the threshold. The Schluter threshold was shimmed too low during original install, or the subfloor has settled. It’s not the door, it’s the transition piece underneath it.
  • Caulk line keeps splitting along the window trim edge. That’s the profile moving independently from the wall surface, which tells us the bonding flange never properly adhered. Re-caulking it just hides the symptom for a few months.
  • Drafts coming through a closed sliding door. The KERDI weatherproofing behind the Schluter trim has degraded or was punctured, and air moves freely between the rough opening and the finish wall.

Replacement Cost & What’s Included

A walk-in shower with large-format tile and a built-in niche

In Long Beach, a straightforward Schluter trim or threshold replacement runs $400 to $1,800, which lines up with our general roof repair range when the opening behind it needs repair too. If the water damage has spread into the framing or subfloor, the job becomes a window or door replacement at $4,500 to $15,000 installed, on par with our window replacement pricing.

What moves the number: how much tile or flooring has to come out to access the profile, whether the rough opening is out of square, and how much rotted framing gets exposed once the trim comes off. You get the written price before any work starts, not after we’ve opened the wall. The quote includes the Schluter part, the labor, the waterproofing repair, and the finish work. It also includes the 365-Day Done Right Promise: if it’s not done right the first time, we make it right at no charge for a full year.

DIY or Call Us?

You can safely pull the old caulk, inspect the visible trim edge, and take photos. That’s about it. Removing a Schluter threshold means cutting into the waterproofing membrane, and if you nick the KERDI layer behind it, you’ve just given water a direct path into your subfloor. We’ve fixed enough DIY threshold replacements in Long Beach to know the pattern: it looks fine for six months, then the floor starts to feel soft near the door.

If the profile is cracked, lifted, or corroded, call us at (562) 512-6480. We’ll come out, tell you exactly what’s failed, and put a written price in your hand before any work starts. No surprises, no change orders at the invoice.
